PGA.Coach Spotlight – Mike Armes, PGA –
Riverside, Iowa – I was excited to do the PGA Coach training to get ideas on methods and strategies for different age groups, this was my first experience with the American Development Model (ADM) whose principles align physical and psychological development to stages, delivering appropriate skills and exercise at the appropriate time. Having been a multi-sport athlete these made perfect sense, but we are in a world of specialization, it is important to keep athletes from injury or burnout. This is something not broached through the PGM Teaching models I received. All this has changed my approach by utilizing non-golf movements in my instruction methods through implementation of the lesson plans provided.

Once I was certified through PGA Coach, I created a profile to allow prospective students to my contact information, which successfully provided me new students that are not members of my club. In addition, the benefits to obtaining certification include assessment tools, activity planners and lesson plans accessible with an app or online. It is easy to see the value of PGA Coach in not only the teaching aspect but also ability to see the number students you have received through the web site and know the income generated. The greatest value to me is the knowledge factor in providing me with access to tools that make me a better prepared teacher.

In the end I feel in the end I am a better teacher and coach with more tools at my disposal by simply getting my PGA Coach certification. I encourage every PGA Professional/Associate to investigate these valuable tools.
