Johnson & McCoy are Captains of Major Golf Events-
Riverside Iowa– What a year it is for Iowa Golf. We have Iowa Golf Hall of Famers representing our state as Captains at the two major team events in 2023. Mike McCoy of Des Moines will be the Captain for the US Walker Cup Team and Zach Johnson will be the US Ryder Cup Team Captain.
The 49th Walker Cup will take place on September 2-3, 2023 and will be played on The Old Course in St. Andrews in Scotland. The Ryder Cup will take place on September 25 – October 1, 2023 and will be played on Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome, Italy.
McCoy is not a stranger of winning tournaments in the state of Iowa, nationwide and worldwide. His highlights include winning the 2022 British Senior Amateur Championship and the 2013 USGA Mid-Amateur Championship. McCoy was inducted into the Iowa Golf Hall of Fame in 2011. Johnson was first taught by former PGA Head Professional Larry Gladson, PGA at Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids. Johnson has had 12 victories on the PGA Tour including two major championships – 2007 Masters and 2015 Open Championships Johnson was inducted into the Iowa Golf Hall of Fame in 2016.
