Black, Schmid Record Top Finishes at 2018 PGA Tournament Series
Port St. Lucice, Florida – Iowa PGA Members, Chris Black and Jeff Schmid, competed in the 2018 PGA Tournament series at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Luice Florida over the past several weeks. The PGA Tournament Series was made up of six events, each taking place on one of the three (Dye, Wanamaker, Ryder) courses at the PGA Golf Club. The Tournament Series began on November 29th and concluded on December 18th. Two rounds were played in each event.
Black participated in all six PGA Tournament Series events this winter. His best finish came in Event #1 on the Dye Course, where he finished T2 after a playoff. Black was on one of five players to finish Event #1 tied atop the leaderboard with a 4-under-par 140 tournament total. John Somers of the North Florida PGA Section made birdie on the first playoff hole to win the event.
Black continued his PGA Tournament Series run in Event #2 where he finished T55 after the second round was cancelled due to rain. Event #3 featured a T24 finish for Black, who carded a two-day total of even-par 144. Black withdrew from Event #4, but returned to action in Event #5 and recorded a 9-over-par 153 tournament total. Black finished his PGA Tournament Series campaign with a T57 finish in Event #6. He recorded a 3-over-par 147 tournament total to close out his Tournaments Series.
Schmid appeared in three PGA Tournament Series events this year. His best finish was T2 at Event #3 on the Ryder Course. Schmid birdied four of five holes to take the lead at 8-under going to No. 18, a 438-yard par-4. Schmid pushed his 7-iron approach into a greenside bunker and the ball plugged. Schmid made bogey to close out his round and dropped one stroke. Bob Sowards would later birdie the final hole to secure the victory.
Schmid also played in Event #2, which had its second round cancelled due rain, and finished T55. His 2018 PGA Tournament Series concluded with a T11 finish at Event #4 on the Dye Course. Schmid recorded a two-day total 5-over-par 149 in his final event.
