The Iowa Golf Association Wins 58th Iowa Cup Matches-
Ames, Iowa – The Iowa Golf Association defeated the Iowa PGA Professional’s 14.50 points to 9.50 points in the 2025 58th Iowa Cup Matches at the Ames Golf & Country Club. This marks the third straight year the Iowa Golf Association have retained the Cup.
Four-Ball Matches – Tuesday, September 30, 2025
The morning started off with Four-Ball Matches. The Iowa PGA won two out right and halved one match with Iowa Golf Association with 3.50 to Iowa PGA 2.50. The first two Iowa PGA teams won their matches with Davis Sutton and Ben Montgomery defeating Joe Palmer and Luke Meyer, 2 up. Mark Atchison and Matt Erger defeating Eddie Doyle and Axton Miller, 1 up giving the Iowa PGA Cup Matches points to start the tournament.
Jeff Schmid and Darin Fisher were defeated by Nate McCoy and Trent Lindenman, 5 & 4. Jay Giannetto and Chris Black were defeated by Dusty Drenth and J.D. Anderson, 3 & 2. Kevin Trobaugh and Matt Jennings were defeated by Hogan Hansen and Zach Christianson, 1 up. That helped get the Iowa Golf Association with 3 points.
Sean McCarty and Jacob Bermel tied Jon Olson and Jon Brown, all teams 0.05 points.
Foursome Matches – Tuesday, September 30, 2025
The afternoon session featured Foursome (Alternate Shot) matches. The Iowa PGA won 2 points and the Iowa Golf Association won 4 points in the Foursome Play. Chris Black and Darin Fisher defeated Jon Olson and Zach Christianson, 3 & 2. Kevin Trobaugh and Mark Atchison defeated Axton Miller and Luke Meyer, 1 up.
The teams of Jay Giannetto and Matt Jennings, Sean McCarty and Jeff Schmid, Ben Montgomery and Matt Erger, Davis Sutton and Jacob Bermel all lost their PM Matches.
The Iowa Golf Association won 13.5 Single Matches on the final day of the 57th Iowa Cup Matches.
Singles Matches – Wednesday, October 1, 2025
Today’s Singles Matches included Ben Montgomery defeated Hogan Hansen, 3 & 2. Davis Sutton defeated J.D. Anderson, 4 & 3. Jeff Schmid defeated Trent Lindenman, 2 & 1. Jay Giannetto defeated Luke Meyer, 5 & 3. Matt Jennings defeated Nate McCoy, 3 &2.
Matt Erger, Darin Fisher, Chris Black, Jacob Bermel, Mark Atchison, Kevin Trobaugh, and Sean McCarty all battled in their Single Matches but eventually lost.
The final score of the 2025 58th Iowa Cup Matches ended with the Iowa Golf Association (Amateurs) winning 14.50 points, while the Iowa PGA (Professionals) won 9.50 points.
