Sutton Defends Assistants Championship

Riverside, Iowa – Davis Sutton defended his title in the National Car Rental Iowa Assistant PGA Professional Championship that was contested yesterday and today at Blue Top Ridge Golf Course in Riverside, Iowa.

Sutton of the Cedar Rapids Country Club fired an impressive round of 6-under par 66.  His round included nine birdies and three bogeys.  He birdied holes #3, #4 and #5 and finished his front-nine with a birdie on #9 to shoot 4-under par 32.  He then birdied holes #14, #15, #16 and #17 followed by a bogey on hole 18 to win the Championship by one-shot over Pheasant Ridge’s Jake Bermel.  Sutton finished the Championship with rounds of 75-66=141, three-under par.

Bermel was near the lead all day before a double bogey 7 on the 16th hole set him back.  His final round of 3-under par included an Eagle 2 on the Par-4 5th hole, three birdies and the double bogey.  Bermel finished with rounds of 73-69=142, two-under par.

Tyler Christians of the Wakonda Club finished in third place with a final round two-under par 70.  His round included four birdies and two bogeys and shot rounds of 73-70=143, one-under par.

First round leader Tracy Vest of Blue Top Ridge finished in fourth place with rounds of 71-75=146, two over par.

Sutton will play in the 43rd National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship.  It will be contested on the Wanamaker Course at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida on November 14-17, 2019.
