Schmid in a Tie for 2nd Place at the 32nd Senior PGA Professional Championship

Riverside, Iowa – Round one is complete at the 32nd Senior PGA Professional Championship at PGA Golf Club (Wanamaker and Ryder Courses) in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

TOURNAMENT CENTRAL

Jeff Schmid of the Brown Deer Golf Club fired a five-under par round of 67 on the Wanamaker Course that places him in a tie for 2nd place after round one. Schmid’s first round included two birdies on holes 7 and 13 with a bogey on hole 9. His round included two eagles on holes 14 (a hole out from 161 yards) and 16. Schmid will tee off on hole #11 at 8:10 am on the Ryder Course.

Chad Proehl of the Sugar Creek Municipal Golf Course played a two-over par round of 70 on the Wanamaker Course.  Proehl’s first round included four birdies on holes 5, 6, 7 and 8 including bogeys on holes 14 and 18. Proehl will tee off on #11 at 12:55 pm on the Ryder Course.

Judd Gibb of Lakeside Municipal Golf Course played a 1-under-par round of 70 on the Ryder Course. Gibb’s first round included three birdies on holes 3, 13 and 16 including bogeys on holes 2 and 10. Gibb will tee off on #10 at 12:40 pm on the Wanamaker Course.

Jeff Smith of Harvest Point Golf Course played a 1-over-par round of 73 on the Wanamaker Course. Smith’s first round included bogeys on holes 2, 3, 9 and 11 and birdies on holes 4, 6 and 8. Smith will tee off on #11 at 1:55 pm on the Ryder Course.

Bryan Luedtke of Bunker Link Golf Course played a 3-over-par round of 74 on the Ryder Course. Luedtke’s first round included birdies on holes 3 and 17 with a double bogey on hole 16 and bogeys on holes 5, 10 and 15. Luedtke will tee off #1 at 8:40 am on the Wanamaker Course.

John Bermel of Pheasant Ridge Golf Course played a 4-over-par round of 76 on the Wanamaker Course. Bermel’s first round included birdies on holes 7, 11, 13 and 15 with bogeys on holes 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10 and 18. Bermel will tee off #1 at 12:25 pm on the Ryder Course.

John Shawver of Fore Seasons Golf Practice Center played a 5-over-par round of 77 on the Wanamaker Course. Shawver carded birdies on holes 5 and 7 with bogeys on holes 6, 9, 12, 15 and 16 including a double bogey on hole 11. Shawver will tee off on #11 at 8:50 on the Ryder Course.

Dave Ranney of Lamoni Golf and Country Club played a 6-over-par round of 77 on the Ryder Course. Ranney’s first round included bogeys on holes 1, 10, 15 and 18 and a double bogey on hole 12. Ranney will tee off #10 at 8:40 am on the Wanamaker Course.

After today’s second round the field will be cut to the low 90 and ties.  Following Saturday’s third round the field will be cut to the low 70 and ties.

A full field of 264 players will compete in the National Championship with several key exemptions at stake. The low 35 scorers will earn a berth into the 2021 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship at Southern Hills in Tulsa, OK, May 25-30, 2021. The top five finishers will earn an exemption into the final stage of the 2020 PGA Tour Champions National Finals.
