Roe Wins 2021 Iowa PGA Patriot Award
Riverside, Iowa – David Roe of City of Cedar Rapids has been named the 2021 Iowa PGA Patriot Award winner by the Iowa PGA Award’s Committee. The Patriot Awarded is presented to the Iowa PGA Professional who personified patriotism through the game of golf and demonstrated unwavering commitment and dedication to the men and women who valiantly served and protected the United States of America.
Roe continues to work with several GIVE graduates after they have completed the program. It has been an honor to continue to teach these individuals and develop their game even further. Many of these individuals require different teaching skills because of some of the things that they’ve dealt with in their time of service to the country. It has been rewarding for him to learn new skills and approaches to help these students of the game to achieve success. Not only has he been challenged to learn new skills of teaching, but he’s learned a lot from these individuals through the stories that they have to share. Not only are they learning from his teaching, but more importantly he’s learning from being around these great individuals who have an immense knowledge base to share.
The thing that brings him the most joy is the Patriot Golf Tournament that we host each year. This tournament is a fund-raising event for the “Folds of Honor”. The money we raise from the tournament goes to the “Folds of Honor” which provides educational scholarships to the children and spouses of our fallen and disabled service members.
He also feels that the Patriot event that we host each year is an opportunity to give support to the families of fallen veterans. Being able to support these families through the Patriot Golf Tournament is something that makes what he does each year fulfilling. He can’t think of anything more fulfilling to the heart than contributing to the success of family members of fallen veterans.
Roe is also passionate about helping Veterans deal with Mental health issues during and after they are in the military. He is a supporter of the program Mission 22, which helps veterans deal with these issues. He thinks that it is an issue that goes unnoticed that people need to be aware of.
This is Roe’s first Iowa PGA Section Award.
Roe was quoted saying, “Winning the IPGA Patriot award is so humbling to me. It shows what we are doing within the City of Cedar Rapids golf department to improve the lives of military men, women, and their families is not going unnoticed.”
The Iowa PGA Congratulates David Roe as our 2021 Iowa PGA Patriot Award.
Paige Hoffman Named Charlie Burkart Scholarship Recipient
Paige Hoffman, West Des Moines, Iowa native has been selected as the 2021 Charlie Burkart Scholarship honoree by the Iowa PGA Foundation Charlie Burkart Scholarship committee.
Kelli Moore, Valley High School Girls Golf Coach has some nice words to say about Paige. “Paige has been active in junior golf in Iowa for a large part of her youth. She started competing in Iowa PGA Junior Tour tournaments at the age of 10 and has been a constant participant since. Paige has won numerous awards and Player of the Year titles in her career, but that is not what has defined her as a golfer or person.”
“Since the time Paige was 6 or 7 years old, she has had a passion and aptitude for golf. I can vividly remember her uncanny ability to square the face of the club to the back of the ball at a very young age. It has been a privilege to watch her develop as a player and a person. She is also 2-time Iowa Golf Association (IGA) Girls Player of the year along with being the 2019 Women's State Amateur Champion. Paige also added the State 4A individual title to her impressive resume. Her consistently fine play has earned her a spot on the golf team at the University of South Dakota for this coming fall.” Ken Schall, PGA Professional, Ken Schall Performance Studios.
“It is truly an honor to receive the Burkart Scholarship. Receiving the Burkart Scholarship means more to me than any success I have found on the golf course. Throughout my junior career the Iowa PGA Section has provided me with endless opportunities to learn about the game of golf, improve my game, and ultimately fall in love with the game. Now, the Iowa PGA Section is giving me the opportunity to continue my academic career with less stress. I feel truly blessed to have the support of the Iowa PGA Section in more ways than one. This scholarship will help me pursue a business degree which I hope in turn allows me to work in the golf industry. I would love to work in the junior golf world to give kids the same great opportunities I was given. Overall, I am truly honored to receive this scholarship and will aim to represent the Iowa PGA well in all that I do, Hoffman said.”
Abigail Gaudian Named Charlie Burkart Post-Secondary Scholarship Winner-
Abigail Gaudian, Hudson, Iowa native has been selected as the 2021 Charlie Burkart Post-Secondary Scholarship honoree by the Iowa PGA Foundation Charlie Burkart Scholarship committee.
Jeffrey J. Curley, Business Education Teacher/Coach Hudson High School has some nice words to say about Abigail. “Abby Gaudian has accomplished so much in her athletic career here at Hudson High School. The awards and recognition she has received over her high school career are numerous. However, well beyond all those accomplishments exists a young person who truly is special in how she treats others, impacts others positively. It has truly been an honor to work with Abby the last several years, know doubt her future is bright as she will continue to impact those she encounters in a positive way.”
“Outside of Ms. Gaudian being an excellent student, she is an incredible athlete and truly a wonderful person. She routinely gets our entire team in a positive attitude with her infectious energy whether that is at practice, a tournament, or simply walking down the halls. She is one of the toughest competitors I know, and her drive to become better pushes not only herself, but her teammates and her coach to do better as well.” Jarvis Weber, Iowa Lakes Community College Head Golf Coach.
“I am incredibly honored to be recognized by the Iowa PGA and to receive the Charlie Burkart Post Graduate Scholarship. Receiving this scholarship means I can continue my dream of playing golf at the college level while working toward a degree in the healthcare profession.” Abigail on what it means to receive the scholarship.
