Sioux Falls, South Dakota – Iowa PGA Member, Chad Proehl qualified for the PGA TOUR Champions Sanford International event at the Minnehaha Country Club on September 21-23 after finishing T2 at the event qualifier. This event marks Proehl’s third PGA TOUR Champions event of the season.
Proehl carded seven birdies, including two-in-a-row on Nos. 4-5, 10-11 and 17-18 to record a 6-under-par 66 in Tuesday’s qualifier. He fell short of Tom Gillis by one stroke, but still secured one of the four qualifying spots for the Sanford International.
Proehl has competed in two other PGA TOUR Champions event this season. His first appearance this season came at The Principal Charity Classic at the Wakonda Club in Des Moines, Iowa. Proehl earned a sponsorship exemption into this event and finished at 1-under-par 143 T54 (the final round was canceled due to weather). He qualified for the 3M Championship at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota. The Urbandale native carded an 8-over-par 224 to finish T71.
In addition to his PGA TOUR Champions appearances, Proehl also appeared in the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run in Slivis, Illinois. Earning an exemption into the John Deere Classic from winning the 2017 Iowa PGA Professional Championship, Proehl missed the 36-hole cut with a two-round total of 9-over-par 151.
Proehl has also seen success at Iowa PGA Section events. He finished third at this year’s Iowa PGA Professional Championship with a 3-under-par 210. He also placed fourth at the 2018 Iowa Senior PGA Professional Championship with a two-day total of even-par 144.
Due his third and fourth place finishes, Proehl has qualified for the 51st PGA Professional National Championship at the Belfair of Bluffton on April 28 – May 1 and has also qualified for the 2018 Senior PGA Professional Championship at the PGA Golf Club on October 25-28.
In addition to the Professional Championship and Senior Professional Championship, Proehl has four top-five finishes in Iowa PGA Section events, including three first places finishes.
