Proehl in Contention Following Round 1 of the PGA Professional Championship

Bluffton, South Carolina – Iowa PGA member, Chad Proehl currently sits T8 after the first round of the 2019 PGA Professional Championship. Proehl is one of six Iowa PGA Professionals competing in this week’s National Tournament.

Proehl got off to a quick start with a birdie on the par-5 second hole. He added another birdie on the par-4 fifth hole to make the turn at 2-under-par 34. After a bogey on the 10th hole, Proehl responded with three straight birdies, to get to 5-under-par and take the solo lead. He double-bogeyed the par-4 17th hole to finish the first round at 2-under-par and tied for eighth place.

In addition to Proehl, Iowa PGA members John Bermel, Darin Fisher, Sean McCarty, Judd Gibb and Jeff Schmid all competed in the first round of the 2019 PGA Professional Championship on Sunday.    

McCarty finished round one at 5-over-par 76. His round featured four birdies, two on the front nine and back-to-back birdies on Nos. 15-16. He is currently tied for 162nd. McCarty’s second round will start tomorrow at 1:25 p.m. on the West Course.

Bermel of Pheasant Ridge Golf Course carded two birdies in his first round for a five-over-par 77. He is currently in a tie for 162nd and will start the second round at 7:50 a.m. on the East Course.

Following a first round 1-over-par 72 on the East Course, Gibb sits T53. Gibb started hot on his first nine holes, recording three birdies and making the turn at 2-under-par 34. He gave a few shots back on his back nine, carding just one birdie. Gibb will take on the West
Course tomorrow at 8:00 a.m.

Schmid finished his first round with a 3-over-par 75 on the East Course. Schmid carded a birdie on the par-5 seventh hole and 13 pars and is in a tie for 111th. He will continue his PGA Professional Championship on the West Course at 8:45 a.m. tomorrow.

Fisher was the final Iowa PGA Professional to tee off in round one. He finished his first round with a 3-over-par 75. Fisher’s round featured three birdies, one on the front nine and two on the back nine. He is currently T111 and will continue his tournament tomorrow on the East Course at 9:00 a.m.
