Pt. St. Lucie, Florida – Four Iowa PGA Professionals competed hard to finish at the top of the PGA Senior-Junior Team Championship held at PGA Golf Club in Pt. St. Lucie the past four days.

They continued their hot play from round three to push the top teams until the final hole.  “We had a lot of fun,” said Giannetto, “Just wish that a few more putts would have dropped for us today; but we competed hard.”

Iowa PGA Members Chad Proehl of Sugar Creek Golf Course and Jay Giannetto of Elmwood Country Club shot a final round eight-under 64 to sit in a tie for 2nd place in the Championship. Proehl birdied the first and third holes while Giannetto birdied the eighth hole to keep them within earshot of the lead.

Proehl then went on a tear by birdieing four of the next six holes to get them to thirty-two under par.  When Giannetto birdied the sixteenth hole they were one shot out of first place.  They made par on seventeen and eighteen while the winning team birdied sixteen and seventeen to pull away from the pack.  The pair finished at thirty-three under par (60-70-61-64=255) to tie two other teams for second place.

“We had a solid tournament with a lot of good things happening for us,” Proehl said, “The second day on the Dye Course kind of put us behind (70).  We battled back the final two days to have a chance.  Jay was consistent and his new putter will most likely be the gamer now.  It was nice to play with Ranney and McCarty on day three.  It felt like an Iowa PGA Section Event!”

Dave Ranney of Lamoni Golf & Country Club and Sean McCarty of Brown Deer Golf Club fired a final round seven-under par 65 to finish in solo 7th place.  McCarty started the front nine hot by birdieing holes one and two  He finished hot with birdies on eight and nine to pull the duo to twenty-five under for the Championship.

“It’s great having Sean McCarty as a partner,” said Ranney, “It was fun playing with Proehl and Giannetto in round three as well.  They put on a putting clinic that was really impressive.”

As Ranney already knew competing with him in the Iowa PGA, like many of McCarty’s winning 2020 PGA Cup Team members found out, McCarty can be a great partner; he makes a lot of birdies and is rarely out of a hole.

McCarty finished the Championship by birdieing holes thirteen, fourteen and sixteen to help Ranney and he to finish at (67-64-64-65=260) twenty-eight under par and a 7th place finish.

Next up for the Winter Series is the Four-Ball Stableford Team Championship.  Proehl will team up with JC Anderson of Bonita Springs, FL to take a shot at the title.  McCarty will pair up with his teammate from the 2020 PGA Cup Matches held in Austin, Texas last fall.  Rich Berberian of Hooksett, NH and McCarty were a deadly duo as they helped guide Captain Derek Sprague and Team USA to victory over Great Britain & Ireland in those International Matches.
