MCCARTY LEADS THE IOWA PGA PROFESSIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AFTER DAY 1
DES MOINES, Iowa – July 13, 2020 – Sean McCarty of Brown Deer Golf Club, Coralville, IA, leads the Iowa PGA Section PGA Professional Championship, July 13, 2020 at Wakonda Club. McCarty leads 69-69=138 for a 6-under-par total after two rounds. Section Professionals across the Nation will compete in the 54rd PGA Professional Championship, April 25-28, at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Final round will be completed on July 14, 2020.
McCarty turned in a 36-hole total of 6-under-par with rounds of 69-69=138 to lead the Iowa PGA Professional Championship. Tracy Vest of Iowa City, IA is in second place with rounds of 69-72=141 for 3-under-par. Final round will begin at 8am tomorrow.
Chad Proehl of Sugar Creek Golf Course sits in first place of the Senior Division with rounds of 70-73=143 to sit 1-under-par. He followed closely by Jeff Schmid of Brown Deer Golf Club with rounds of 74-70=144 to sit one shot back.
The Super Senior Division is led by Jeff Smith of Harvest Point Golf Course with rounds of 74-74=148 for a total of 2-over-par for the Championship. Ken Schall of Ken Schall Performance Golf Studio is in second place at 8-over-par and rounds of 78-74=152.
The top 5 finishers in tomorrow’s event qualify for the 54rd PGA Professional Championship, April 25-28, at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida. McCarty is exempt for this Championship by qualifying for the 54th PGA Cup Team. Schmid is exempt for his Top 20 finish in the 53rd PGA Professional Championship.

The PGA Professional Championship and 41 PGA Section Championships feature a total purse of more than $1.5 million. The PGA Professional Championship purse is $650,000, distributed among those who make the cut in the 312-player field. Golf Channel will televise all four rounds of the national Championship.
If eligibility is met and maintained, the low 20 scorers in 2021 will earn berths into the 103rd PGA Championship, May 20-23, 2021, at The Ocean Course in Kiawah Island, South Carolina.
In addition to the Walter Hagen Cup, the PGA Professional Championship winner also receives an exemption into the next 10 PGA Professional Championships and exemptions into six PGA TOUR events over a 12-month period.
Established in 1968, the PGA Professional Championship roster of Champions includes the following premier TOUR professionals: Sam Snead, Bob Rosburg, Don Massengale, Ed Dougherty, Larry Gilbert, and Bruce Fleisher.
