Iowa PGA Professional’s Lead Cup Matches After Day One
Ankeny, IA – The Iowa PGA Professional’s lead the Iowa Cup Matches 12 to 8 after day on at the Briarwood Golf Club. The final round will conclude tomorrow with singles matches starting at 8 a.m. Click here, for tee times for final round.
The morning started off with Four-Ball Matches. The Iowa PGA won seven matches out right and halved one matches to grab a 7.5 to 2.5 lead in the morning. The first two Iowa PGA teams won their matches with Darin Fisher and Judd Gibb defeating Connor Peck and Andrew Huseman, 4&3. Jim Henry and Jeff Smith of the Iowa PGA defeated Tom Schill and Terry Cook 5&4, giving the Iowa PGA Cup Matches points to start the tournament.
The Iowa PGA team of Dave Ranney and John Dinnebier prevailed over Ron Peterson and Tony Newkirk 2&1. Jacob Bermel and Ty Stewart defeated John Olson and Charlie Hoyle, 1up.
Mark Atchison and Tracy Vest were defeated by Ben Epperly and Logan Schweinefus, 2&1. Matt Erger and Ben Montgomery were defeated by Joe Palmer and Trent Lindenman, 2&1. That helped get the Iowa Golf Association 2 points.
The teams of Sean McCarty and Chris Black tied with Jon Brown and JD Anderson, to give both teams, .05 points.
Jay Giannetto and Chad Proehl defeated Nate McCoy and Nate Vance, 3&2. John Bermel and Aaron Krueger defeated David Combs and Kevin Ault, 3&2. Chad Callan and Greg Dingel defeated Dusty Drenth and Gene Elliott to secure the 7.5 to 2.5 lead for the Iowa PGA morning session.
The afternoon session featured Foursome (Alternate Shot) matches. The Iowa Golf Association won 5.5 points and The Iowa PGA won 4.5 points in the Foursome Play. Chad Proehl and Judd Gibb defeated Jon Brown and Nate Vance, 1up. John Dinnebier and Jeff Smith defeated Tom Schill and Ron Peterson, 4&2. Jay Giannetto and Chad Callan defeated Jon Olson and Connor Peck, 1up. Ben Montgomery and Tracy Vest defeated JD Anderson and Ben Epperly, 1up. Ty Stewart and Matt Erger tied their match with Joe Palmer and Logan Schweinefus to give both teams .05 points. This gave the Iowa PGA 4.5 points in the afternoon session.
The teams of Dave Ranney and Jim Henry, John Bermel and Jacob Bermel, Mark Atchison and Greg Dingel, Chris Black and Darin Fisher and Aaron Krueger and Sean McCarty all lost their PM Matches.
Heading into Thursday’s Single Matches the Iowa PGA has 12 points to lead the Iowa Golf Association with 8 points.
