Iowa PGA Players of the Years McCarty, Gibb, Smith And Low Scoring Average Steffen

McCarty Wins 2022 Iowa PGA Player of the Year –
Riverside, Iowa – Sean McCarty of Brown Deer Golf Club has won the 2022 Iowa PGA Player of the Year with a total of 2,046.67 points. This marks the sixth straight year McCarty has won the Iowa PGA Player of the Year, and the eleventh time in the last 13 years he has accomplished this feat.
 
When asked on what this means to win this award McCarty responded with, “Winning the Player of the Year means a lot to me.  The Iowa Section has so many good players that compete both in our section and nationally. Accomplishing this no easy task in Iowa.”
 
McCarty competed in the PGA Professional Championship in May 26-29, 2022 and was a part of the #Teamof20 who played in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the 2022 PGA Championship. McCarty was the Playing Captain for the 2022 Iowa Cup Matches which defended the title from 2021. He also played in the 2022 John Deere Classic held on June 30-July 3 at TPC Deere Run. McCarty played in the 2022 Senior PGA Professional Championship held at October 13-16, 2022 in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico and finished T61st place.
 
McCarty was the Iowa PGA Section Match Play Champion defeating Zach Steffen in the final match.  Match Play is one of the major point events on the Tournament Calendar.
 
McCarty competed in 18 Iowa PGA events this season. He had 15 top-six finishes including wins at the Match Play Championship, Mizuno 36 Hole Classic, Junior-Senior Draw and Iowa Cup Matches.  McCarty also finished tied for 2nd place at the Iowa PGA Professional Championship and finished tied for 3rd place at the Iowa Senior PGA Professional Championship.

Gibb Wins 2022 Iowa PGA Senior Player of the Year –
Judd Gibb of the Hanson’s Custom Golf has won the 2022 Iowa PGA Senior Player of the Year with a total of 1,985 points. This marks Gibb’s first year to win the Iowa PGA Senior Player of the Year.
 
When asked on what this means to win this award Gibb responded with, “It’s a great honor to win the 2022 IPGA Sr Player of the year. I’ve been close A few times…I guess this was just my year.”
 
Gibb played in 19 Iowa PGA events this season, finishing inside the top-five at seventeen events, including six second place finishes and victories in the Senior Division at the Pro-Pro, Pro-Pro #1, Pro-Pro #2, Team All-Pro, NB/M&M Foundation Pro-Am (Senior Division), Pro-Select, Pro-Scratch/Pro-Senior Scratch, Junior vs Senior Team Championship and NB Golf Cars/M&M Golf Cars Shootout.

Gibb played in the U.S. Senior Open Championship on July 11, 2021 in Omaha, Nebraska and finished T56th with total rounds total 72-71-76-77=296. This fall Gibb competed in the 2022 Senior PGA Professional Championship held at October 13-16, 2022 in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico and finished T61st place.

Smith Wins 2022 Iowa PGA Super Senior Player of the Year –
Jeff Smith of the Harvest Point Golf Course has won the 2022 Iowa PGA Super-Senior Player of the Year with 1,174.38 points. This marks the fourth straight year Smith has won the Iowa PGA Super Senior Player of the Year.

When asked on what this means to win this award Smith responded with, “Winning the Iowa Section PGA Super Senior Player of the Year was a very gratifying accomplishment!  It was a goal achieved against a highly competitive group of fellow Iowa Section PGA Professionals.”

Smith competed in 13 Iowa PGA events this season. Smith was the top Super-Senior finisher at the Mizuno 36-Hole Classic, Pro-Pro #2, Harris Golf Cars Pro-Facility and NB Golf Cars/M&M Golf Cars Shootout.

Smith was Player of the Year Super Senior Division in 2019, 2020 and 2021 and Player of the Year Senior Division in 2015.

Steffen Wins 2022 Iowa PGA Low Scoring Average –
Zach Steffen of Terrace Hills Golf Course has won the 2022 Iowa PGA Low Scoring Average with an average of 68.64 – that was an average of 2.93 under par. This marks Steffen’s first year to win the Iowa PGA Low Scoring Average of the Year.
 
When asked on what this means to win this award Steffen responded with, “I’m honored to be recognized as having the lowest scoring average this season. There are so many great players in our section, so this means a lot to me. I’d like to thank the Iowa PGA staff for putting these events together. These events allow us professionals the opportunity to compete, which is a big reason why I enjoy this game so much. Finally I’d like to thank my boss Rocky Sposato for helping me play my best golf this season. Even though golf is an individual sport, there are always people that help you along the way. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of the golf swing with me these pat few years. Thank you!”
 
Steffen played in 11 Iowa PGA events this season, finishing inside the top-five at thirteen events, including five second place finishes and victories in the Mizuno 36-Hole Classic, 89th Iowa Open, Iowa Assistant PGA Professional Championship and Iowa Cup Matches.

The 2022 Iowa PGA Assistant Player of the Year is yet to be determined. The Assistant Player of the Year will be announced following the completion of the 46th National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship, which takes place at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida on November 17-20, 2022.
