Gibb in Contention Following Round 2 of the PGA Professional Championship
Bluffton, South Carolina – Iowa PGA member, Judd Gibb currently sits T10 after the second round of the 2019 PGA Professional Championship. Gibb is one of three Iowa PGA Professionals that made the cut, +5 or better, in this week’s National Tournament.
Following a first round 1-over-par 72 on the East Course, Gibb fired a solid round of 70 to sit at 142. Gibb played a solid front 9 with birdies on holes 7 and 9 to make the turn in 34 strokes. Gibb played a solid back nine with seven straight pars. He then bogeyed holes 17 and 18 to shoot 70 and finish at 70-72=142 (-1) and is in a tie for 10th place. Gibb’s tee time for today is at 12:20 pm EST.
In addition to Gibb, Iowa PGA members Chad Proehl and Jeff Schmid made the cut at +5. In addition, John Bermel, Darin Fisher and Sean McCarty all competed but missed the cut in the 2019 PGA Professional Championship on Sunday.
Proehl finished his second round with a round of 76 on the West Course. Proehl carded two bogeys and a double bogey on the front nine. He jumped out on the back-nine with a birdie on the 10th hole and finished with a birdie on the 18th hole. In between he bogeyed holes 12-14. His two-round total is 70-76=146 (+3). He will continue his PGA Professional Championship on the West Course at 9:30 a.m. EST today.
Schmid finished his first round with a round of 72 on the West Course. Schmid carded a birdie on the 5th hole and on holes 16 and 17. He made four bogeys in his round. His two-round total of 75-72=147 (+4) allowed him to make the cut by one stroke. He will continue his PGA Professional Championship on the West Course at 9:10 a.m. EST tomorrow.
Darin Fisher finished his second round with a 75. Fisher’s up and down round featured four birdies, four bogeys and two double bogeys. His rounds of 75-75=150 left him two shots short of making the cut.
McCarty finished round two with a two-round total of 152. His round featured three birdies, two on the front nine and one on the back nine, four bogeys and one triple bogey. He is currently tied for 162nd.
Bermel of Pheasant Ridge Golf Course never could get his round going in the right direction. He made five bogeys on the front and 1 bogey on the back to shoot 77 in round two. He missed the 36-hole cut with rounds of 77-77=154.
The PGA Professional Championship will continue play today and tomorrow West courses at Belfair Golf Club. They will cut to the low 70 and ties for Wednesday’s final round. Follow live scoring here or you may watch the tournament action on the Golf Channel from 2 pm to 5 pm CST.
