Economic Impact Study

The Iowa Golf Council recognizes and will promote the golf industry as a significant business sector and driver of economic activity in the state of Iowa.  It will facilitate the implementation of programs and public policies designed to help grow the game of golf in Iowa.

The game of golf drives significant economic activity across the State of Iowa. This impact includes not only direct operational expenditures and capital investments made by Iowa’s 395 golf facilities, but also golf-related manufacturing and retail spending, golf tourism and new golf-related residential construction.

In 2015, Iowa’s $606.1 million golf economy expenditures supported total statewide economic impact of $817.5 million of direct, indirect, and induced economic output; 11,435 direct, indirect, and induced jobs; $280.2 million in compensation; and $72.3 million in state and local tax revenue. This is an increase from 2006, the last time an economic impact study was performed.
