Callan wins NB Golf Cars/M&M Golf Cars October Shootout

Moravia, Iowa – Chad Callan of Briarwood Golf Club won the 2019 NB Golf Cars/M&M Golf Cars October Shootout today at The Preserve at Rathbun Lake.

Callan started the day with a two-stroke lead when in Monday’s first round he fired a 5-under par 67 that included six birdies and only one bogey.  His lead was over Tracy Vest of Blue Top Ridge who made four birdies and one bogey in his first round of three-under par 69.  In a tie for third on day one was PGA Host Professional Darin Fisher and Elmwood Country Club’s Jay Giannetto who each shot rounds of 2-under par 70.

Callan had an up and down front nine in today’s final round with four birdies and three bogeys to make the turn with a three-shot lead.  Callan bogeyed the par 4 tenth hole as Vest made birdie and saw his lead cut lto one shot.  Vest added another birdie on the par 4 12th hole to tie things up.  Going to the final hole of the Championship they were still tied when Vest hit a couple errant drives that were never found.

Callan was able to par the 18th hole as Vest made a nine to win the event by four strokes.  Callan fired rounds of 67-72=139 to win with a five-under par total.  Vest and Davis Sutton of the Cedar Rapids Country Club tied for second place with one under par totals of 143.

John Shawver of Fore Seasons Golf Practice Center/Grinnell College Golf fired a first round one-under par 71 that included two birdies and one bogey to lead the Senior Division.  He led by four over Bryan Luedtke of Bunker Links Golf Course who fired a three-over par 75 heading into today’s final round. Shawver shot a two-over par round of 74 that included sixteen pars and two bogeys and finished the tournament with rounds of 71-74=145, one over par.  Dave Ranney of the Lamoni Golf & Country Club put some pressure on Shawver with his second round of two-under par 70 that came after his first round of four-over par 76.  Bryan Haas of Blue Top Ridge fired a three-under par round of 69 today and finished in a tie for third with Luedtke at four-over par for the Championship.

Jeff Smith of Harvest Point Golf Course broke the first day with PGA Life Member Gale Gilbert with rounds of 78-74=152 to finish at eight-over par for the Championship.  Gilbert had rounds of 78-79=157 to finish in solo second. won the Super Senior Division by eight strokes.
