Black/Schweinefus and Erger/Peacock Claim Titles

Decorah, Iowa – Chris Black, PGA Head Professional at the Hickory Grove Golf Course and his Scratch partner Cody Schweinefus won the Pro-Scratch portion of the Pro-Scratch/Pro-Senior Scratch Team Event held at the Oneota Golf & Country Club in Decorah, Iowa.

The pair fired a ten-under par round of 62 in the 0ne Gross Best Ball Team Event.  They combined for one eagle, ten birdies and two bogeys including a stretch of holes on the back nine where they went birdie, birdie, eagle and birdie.  They won by five strokes over the teams of Brown Deer Golf Course’s PGA Head Professional Sean McCarty and Amateur partner Derek Birt, Prairie Links’ Assistant Golf Professional Joe Weber and Amateur partner Blaine Buhr and the Elmcrest Country Club’s PGA Head Professional Brian Buermann and Amateur partner Julie Buermann.

In the Pro-Senior Scratch portion, Matt Erger the PGA Head Professional/Owner at the Airport National Golf Course and his Senior Scratch partner Jack Peacock combined to shoot a five-under par round of 67.  The pair made eight birdies and three bogeys in winning this year’s title.  They defeated two teams that shot 4-under par rounds of 68.  Airport National’s Assistant Golf Professional Dillon Baker and his Amateur partner Craig Runyan and Harvest Point’s Co-Head Professional Jeff Smith and his partner Charlie Estabrook.

Estabrook’s round included his third Hole-In-One on the 138-yard Par-3 13th hole using a pitching wedge.  It was witnessed by Smith, Erger and Peacock.

Low Professional honors were also handed out today.  In the Open Division, Black, Sugar Creek Golf Course’s Teaching Professional Chad Proehl and McCarty all fired one-under par rounds of 71.  Black’s round of 71 included one eagle, three birdies, two bogeys and one double bogey.  Proehl scratched out five birdies and four bogeys in his round of 71 while McCarty made one eagle, four birdies and five bogeys.

In the Senior Division, Proehl won the 50 years of age and over title by two-shots over PGA Life Member Larry Castagnoli, one-over par 73, and by three shots over Lakeside Municipal Golf Course’s PGA Teaching Professional Judd Gibb’s round of 74.

Castagnoli added another Super Senior Division title to his season by five shots over Smith’s round of 78.
