Jul 31, 2019

RIVERSIDE, Iowa – The 86th Iowa Open will be held on August 2-4 at Blue Top Ridge in Riverside. The tournament first began in 1927 and has since been recognized as a Midwest Golf Championship. The event has a rich tradition of champions, most famously, Zach Johnson is a two-time winner of the Iowa Open. (Click here for full list of Iowa Open winners). This year’s field hosts a handful of previous champions as well as some of the most successful local golfers.

Iowa PGA Member, Sean McCarty, will look for his fifth Iowa Open victory this week at Blue Top Ridge. McCarty is coming off a third-place finish at the Iowa PGA Professional Championship at the Amana Colonies Golf Club on July 22-23.

The 2019 Iowa PGA Professional Champion, Judd Gibb, is looking for his first Iowa Open victory this week. Gibb is coming off his second Iowa PGA Professional Championship victory (2009, 2019) and has 10 top-10 finishes in Iowa PGA events this year.

Jeff Schmid is one-of-two Iowa PGA Members in the 86th Iowa Open that has won the Iowa Open before, his last win dates back to 2000. Schmid is coming off a loss to Gibb in a playoff at the 2019 Iowa PGA Professional Championship. His remarkable season this year qualified him for the 2020 PGA Professional Championship. Schmid finished T43 last year at the 85th Iowa Open.

McCarty (2013, 2008, 2005, 1997) and Schmid (2000) are the only Iowa PGA Members in the 86th Iowa Open field that have previously won an Iowa Open.

Defending Iowa Open Champion, Dan Woltman from Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, will be making his return this year after carding 16-under-par 200 in three rounds a season ago. Woltman didn’t make one bogey at the 2018 Iowa Open. He held off a competitive field by two strokes with the amateur from Des Moines chipping at his heels, Tripp Kinney.

The first round of the Iowa Open begins Friday, August 2 with groups teeing off of Nos. 1 and 10 at 7:30 a.m. Following the second round on Thursday, the field will eventually be cut to the low 70 players and ties. Please click here for more tournament information such as tee times and pairings.
