Iowa PGA Professional’s Lead Iowa Cup Matches After Day 1

Burlington, Iowa — The Iowa PGA Professional’s lead the Iowa Cup Matches 13.5 to 6.5 after day one at the Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington, IA. The final round will conclude tomorrow with singles matches starting at 8 a.m.

The morning started off with Four-Ball Matches. The Iowa PGA won six matches out right and halved two matches to grab a 7 to 3 lead in the morning. The first two Iowa PGA teams won their matches with Sean McCarty and Justin Smool defeating Scot Cook and Scott Hart, 2up. Matt Erger and Curt Schnell of the Iowa PGA defeated Logan Schweinefus and Bret Taylor 1up, giving the Iowa PGA two points to start the tournament.

The Iowa PGA team of Brian Lorenz and Bryan Luedtke prevailed over Brian Allison and John Siela 3&2, making the total score of the tournament 3.5 to 0.5 in favor of the Iowa PGA. Chad Callan and Clark Smith were the next Iowa PGA team to grab a point. The duo defeated David Combs and Justin Pansegrau, 1up.

The teams of Steve Hutton and Joe Butler, and Judd Gibb and Jeffery Schmid were the final two teams to win Four-Ball matches for the Iowa PGA. Hutton and Butler defeated Rob Christensen and Tom Norton 4&2 giving the Iowa PGA a 6 to 2 lead. Gibb and Schmid defeated Scott Briggs and Wes Buntenbach 2&1 to secure the 7 to 3 lead for the morning session.

The afternoon session featured Foursome matches. The Iowa PGA won five matches and halved two. Smith and Lorenz of the Iowa PGA defeated Christensen and Peterson 2&1 in the first match. Erger and Ben Montgomery were the next Iowa PGA team to win, winning their match 2 up and giving the Iowa PGA a 9.5 to 4.5 lead.

Butler and Luedtke won their watch 4&2, and Chad Proehl and Gibb won their match 1up, extending the Iowa PGA lead to 12.5 to 6.5. The last Iowa PGA team of Hutton and Smool won their match 1up to secure the 13.5 to 6.5 lead on day 1. Click here to view full results.
