Junior Tour LogoThe Iowa PGA Section is excited to announce and recognize some pretty fantastic junior golfers on a great summer and wonderful achievements.  For 15 years, the Iowa Junior Tour has been providing quality junior golf programs across Iowa and western Illinois. The 2015 Iowa PGA Junior Tour Player of the Year Award Recipients are listed below with highlights from their great season.

The Iowa PGA Junior Tour is extremely fortunate to have great support and sponsorship from The Principal Charity Classic. This is the 6th year in a row of their generous support. Since 2010, their contributions have allowed our program to grow significantly, offering the most tournament opportunities ever for area juniors.  A very special thank you to the The Principal Charity Classic and their staff for their continued support and sponsorship of the Iowa Junior Tour.

It is extremely great news that Principal Financial Group has announced that it has extended its deal with the PGA Tour to remain as title sponsor for three more years. That takes the event through 2018, with the Wakonda Club remaining the host site.  Not only is this the sixth year for title sponsorship for The Principal Charity Classic, it is the sixth consecutive year the record for charity dollars has been broken. More than $7.7 million has been raised since Principal became title sponsor. Donations from the tournament will be distributed to the tournament’s five “FORE Our Kids” charities.

The Player of the Year point totals continued for 2015 in a “best of” approach; points are earned by a player in the top 16 tournaments that he or she participated. Anyone who competed for Player of the Year was required to be an Iowa Junior Tour member. At the conclusion of the season, the player with the most points acquired in their division is awarded this title. The age divisions included are: Boys 11 & Under, Boys 12-13, Boys 14-15, Boys 16-18, Girls 13 & Under, Girls 14-15, Girls 16-18.

Events continued to be categorized in three groups: Ace, Eagle, and Birdie. Ace Point events were worth the most points, then Eagle, then Birdie. There were 17 Ace Point events, 9 Eagle Point events, 21 Birdie Point events, and 13 local qualifiers for 2 of the Ace Point events (qualifiers are non-point events). The 2015 Iowa PGA Junior Tour Player of the Year award recipients will be honored at the All Star Pro Golf Awards Luncheon that will be held on Tuesday, October 20 at Riverside Casino & Golf Resort.

The Iowa PGA would also like to thank returning presenting sponsor Shattucks-St. Mary’s School and new presenting sponsor Bushnell Range Finders for their support as well. Shattuck-St. Mary’s is a college preparatory program designed specifically to meet the needs of dedicated students looking to pursue their passion in GOLF.  Bushnell Golf and sales representative Jon Novosel provided NeoGhost Range Finders to be given away at ACE Point Events administered by The Iowa PGA.
